Memorial Day Weekend Info & Schoolhouse Class Updates

Hello all and welcome to another kick-off marking of summer as we enter Memorial Day weekend 2015!  Class information is as follows….

KIWANIS PARK – No Class Saturday 5/23 (back on the 30th) NOTE:  I am subbing this week in the NORTH HILLS (Schoolhouse Yoga) for Kendell’s 4:30pm Gentle.  Many of you who have discovered yoga @ kiwanis and yoga in general, and have wanted to see what it is like to practice in a studio but aren’t sure–this is a wonderful opportunity to see what “gentle” is all about.  The studio is located on the access road to Ross Park mall that takes you to Salon Vivace and David’s Bridal (just as you pass 1/2 price books heading north).  It’s a lovely way to decompress after a weekend of full-on activity and perhaps, toxicity ;^|

MILLVALE COMMUNITY LIBRARY – Class is now on summer hiatus.

UPMC St. Margaret’s Hospital – Class is now on summer hiatus.

My regular teaching hours are Tuesday nights at 6:30pm in the NORTH HILLS studio.  It is a “Yoga 1” practice.  It is a good entry point for all.  Saturdays in SQUIRREL HILL at 10:00am for a “Gentle” practice.  The place to be for everyone!  Sundays in the NORTH HILLS at 11:00am THROUGH MAY.  Again, “Yoga 1”–nothing to fear here!  Sundays will change as June rolls in to an early start of 9:00am!  We all want to get our yoga in early so as not to miss the days events.  The earlier we can let it move us, the deeper our impact on the world at large.

SUBBING @ EAST LIBERTY on THURSDAYS through May for the YOGA 1 @ 12:15pm (for monique).  That means today!!!

Tuesday, 5/26 | 9:30am – 10:45am Yoga 1 (for Monique)

Tuesday, 6/1 | 9:30am – 10:45am Yoga 1 (for Monique)

Sunday, 5/24 | 4:30pm – 5:45pm Gentle (for Kendell)

for full schoolhouse yoga schedule…go to  the lovely tradition that schoolhouse has established is that “subs” are not advertised.  this is not a mistake!  it’s to get all to experience the beauty of each and every teaching style.  the idea is to try everything until you find something that “clicks” for you 🙂

joyful and safe holidays to you all!!!

Spring Message: Important Updates & Cancellations

well, it’s OFFICIAL!  spring, at long last, is preparing to immerse us in all of the splendor around it’s renewal and rebirth.  as we say our good tidings and “welcome” to it–it is time to also bring the focus back to us in a very big way.  each of us, craves the energy and sustenance of long, mild days full to the brim with sunlight, nature’s call to us, if we are able to listen and heed it, and calendars full of obligations and “to do’s”.  as schedules begin to once again shift, we all get thrown into a different rhythm with our school lives, our social lives, our work lives and every other area that asks us to get involved.  so yet again, it time to reestablish balance.  balance where our energies are concerned, where to carefully siphon our efforts and learn when to pull back.  balance where our boundaries are concerned; every relationship needs them.  life without boundaries can be chaotic, unfulfilling and lead to tremendous resentment toward others and most of all, toward ourselves.  just as our practice teaches us to establish and listen to our own boundaries, this must carry over to our lives and with the habituating of this enforcement of boundaries, it will indeed ‘stick’!

let’s welcome spring with the idea that we will move ahead and yet step back and assess continuously, the tweaking of our daily balance.  not letting the full push into spring and summer drown us in our expectations.

As you read the following news, please remember to always check the website (“follow” me so that email gets sent directly to you when any new posts are added here)/facebook (lizzzrrd lounge studios) page.  i am on twitter as @lizzzrrdlounge and do also list real-time cancellations there as well.  social media is the connection to keep you informed on any cancellations, last-minute or schedule.  as much as i hate it, it’s a necessary tool for us all!!!

Prison Yoga Project (PYP) – Update

some of you know, and others have no idea that this has been a project i have been very closely working on for almost 2 years here in allegheny county.  although the jail has had, and still has, a program for the women–there is nothing for the men who are there for the duration.  the PYP is an amazing effort started by Pastor James Fox.  “Pator James” as he is fondly known, gave me a full scholarship to attend this program.  as you can imagine, i was extremely grateful and would not have been able to accomplish otherwise.  since much of my work is really geared toward the community and pro bono efforts, income is not usually a big part of this equation.  this is why donations are so important for many like us.  those who are able to give, do–and that is the continuation of paying it forward.  it allows myself and others who work diligently to bring (therapeutic) to the segments of the population that ordinarily, would not be able to experience it.

this week i have a very important meeting to learn how this program can be implemented and sustained.  it is a complete grass-roots effort and i ask that all of those who have been tremendous supporters of me over the years, to send out some special thoughts and prayers for these men to get a program seeded and eventually to bloom.  if we think about how our yoga (all 8 limbs) improves the quality of our lives…the impact on theirs can only be pervasively positive and impactful.

i will keep you all posted!

the program at the library has been going strong all winter.  some of the park devotees have become library devotees until the weather subsides and lets us return to the great outdoors.

saturday, april 25th is going to be a special “SOLAR DAY” at the library.  this day is going to be PACKED with activities for all.  check out the library facebook page and site for more information.  ordinarily, our scheduled yoga time would be 12:30pm – 1:30pm but due to the celebrations, this class has been cancelled.  BUT hang on!!!!  there will be a special “Sun Salutations” session for parents and children from 1p – 1:30p.  Participants must bring their own mats.  if you would like to join, show up or you can give me a ‘heads up’ in advance.

there are some other upcoming dates that are important to note on your calendars where the saturday sessions are cancelled.  they are as follows:

3/28/15, 4/11/15, 4/25/15 (see above note), 5/9/15, 5/31/15 (set your alarm and get yourself to Kiwanis and you’ll get your yoga in still!)

please be sure to bring your own mats when you come, as there are none available on-site.

KIWANIS PARK PROGRAM, Shaler – News & Important Dates

just a few more weeks now and the program will begin again for the 3rd year!!  May 2nd is opening day!!!!  if you are new to the program, you must bring your mat and water and anything else you deem necessary to sustain your practice.  we meet EARLY–that means we begin at 8:00AM on the tennis courts.  be sure to come earlier than the scheduled start time, as parking can be a little tricky if everyone is coming at once.  for those of you not sure how to access the tennis courts, you follow the main road into the park and then go right onto the access road that borders the ballfield.  you will see the road turn to the left and go up to the pool changing area and bathrooms.  the parking lot is up there.  its small so if it is full, there is plenty of other parking in the lot behind the jeffery school on your way up to the courts.  there is no shortage of parking for sure, so don’t be nervous!

the “InShaler” magazine is about to be issued and should have all of the dates for the season.  this is the list:

MAY – 2, 16, 30

JUNE – 13, 20, 27

JULY – 11, 18, 25

AUG – 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

SEPT – 12, 19, 26

OCT – 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

this year, much to our own surprise, we again eeked out another season ending clear through to the end of october.  let’s see if we can keep that record going for a third year!!!  there are so many wonderful yogis that i look forward to sharing practice with again this year.

Teaching Starts on 2/5/14 @ Embody Juice Bar & Studio | Wexford, PA

Finally some solid news on where you can catch me teaching on a regular basis.   Embody Natural Health (of Lawrenceville) has opened up it’s second location on Route 19 in Wexford.  It is right near Rita’s Italian Ice if you are familiar with that landmark!  Follow the link…

I will be teaching on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:15am and it will be the “mindful flow” that you were pretty much accustomed to at LLS. Aimee has a really lovely model and on one side of the building (right) is the juice & food bar and on the other side (left) is the studio. They are connected by a common lounge area which has some couches and books and lots of nice things to cozy up to. Specials run every day so it’s really nice little added bonus to be able to fill up on something hearty and healthy after class. Especially as we are in the throws of this horrid winter season. We all have grown weary and weak from the constant barrage of extreme temperatures. Aimee Woods is an expert on what might be the best remedy for what is ailing you nutritionally.

Please be sure to arrive 10-15 minutes early in order to prepare and set-up. Looking forward to seeing you all again regularly. I am grateful to Aimee for providing the opportunity for former clients to resume their most sacred practice. We are looking for this to be a really supportive endeavor for everyone involved. hands helping hands always!!!

Any questions…shoot me an email! Thank you for your continued fervent support 🙂

December News: Studio Location is Closing :’^(

Well…based on the title of this post, it kind of says it all.  Many of you who regularly attend the studio know that in October, I hit a rough patch with Hampton Township.  The Township had initially okay’d a renewal of Occupany Permit, but then it slowly became a quagmire of misinformation and defiance on their part.  Ultimately, the  Occupancy Permit granted to myself or my landlord was being denied unless the landlord  made thousands of dollars in upgrades/retrofitting to the existing property (in order to satisfy the ordinance requirements based on their new classification of business).  I have tried everything within my powers to stay within this very sacred space, but the reality is, that it is simply impossible based on the strong-arm tactics of this Township.  I do not want to further jeapordize my landlord’s relationship with the Township, so it is with great, GREAT sadness that i make this announcement formally. At a time when (my) the business of yoga was really taking hold professionally, to have to close the physical space and leave many of you without a daily source–is thoroughly heart-breaking for me!  PLEASE KNOW THAT!!!!

So what does this mean?!

This means that my physical, dedicated space is no longer available but i will still be found teaching in other parts around the city and am available for private consulation and group sessions.  And of course, when the warm weather hits again starting at the beginning of May 2014–Yoga @ Kiwanis Park!  Every Saturday @ 8:00am.  I will be posting the dates on this site once confirmed with  Shaler Township was has already given their approval 🙂

How can you book a private session or a mother’s group or other special party/corporate class?

Still continue to stay connected to the studio facebook page–i will be a portable entity–nothing new to a gypsy from birth!  Continue to frequent this blogspot and stay informed by adding yourself to the email followers by pressing the “follow” button.  If you are interested in setting up your own private session or mother’s group (you want to start in your home or someone else’s) or any other type of private party or corporate instruction, just contact me directly via email or the telephone number listed.

Where will i be in the immediate future?

I am going to be joining the family and alliance at Medica…the Healing Arts ( in the North Hills.  Yoga therapy is now under the umbrella of their expansive healing modalities!  The ancient practice of yoga and it’s miraculous benefits have been known for centuries but are only now being scientifically demystified and promoted (for a reason!).  Yoga is one of the best self-help tools known to wo/man…only too many of us haven’t discovered it yet!  That continues to be my job 🙂  So contact me or go directly to Medica’s site and you can find out more and how to book right online!

When is the last day of operation at the studio?

The last day of operation is planned for Saturday, December 28th.  The two morning classes will run as planned.

Last Hurrah planned following last class…

Please join me and other patrons on Saturday, December 28th for a drop-in, hang-out and ‘right proper’ good-bye!  Bring a pot luck or food item and spend some time together before the studio is dismantled and disbanded.  It will give me an opportunity to thank you for bringing your devoted energy & essence and such purpose to my life for the last year, and just a little more time to look into those wonderful eyes and really see the soul of such a treasured yogi (friend)!

This has been such a terribly hard reality to confront but like all things–it is a new beginning that is prefaced by a VERY…SAD…END.  The comfort is in knowing that the connections do not end.

If you have any further questions or comments, just comment or email me.

I hope that I will get to see many of you personally from now until the closing.  Christmas has been taglined the ‘season of giving’ but at the studio, it has been a season of endless giving.  It will always remain that the student is who it is about…all of it.  You rocked, rolled and ruled…and still do 🙂

Peace, love, namaste and all good things to you my dear, dear friends and loving practitioners.  It is only because of you that I existed at all.

Fall Schedule 2013 & A Thank You Repost from Facebook

Golden Moon

my silent witness. a weekend of blessings from the community. i still sit in wonder at how the most incredible people keep walking thru the door, supporting the mission of the studio. it is days like these last few that just fill me up again.

thank you wonderful, beautiful yogis yet again. there can never be enough gratitude dispensed. NEVER.

FALL SCHEDULE: [starting in september–exactly when to be determined 😉 ]

An aside this morning regarding the schedule in the works for the fall…I thought I would give you a peek into what the schedule is looking like. This is your chance to let me know what you think. The days of closure for the studio are planned for a reason. The days off are not necessarily days off but opportunities for other yoga projects, often within the community-at-large. As the studio grows in numbers, this will begin to create new windows of practice on what are now “off” days. So please feel free to send me your feedback–positive or negative–it’s all important.

Notice there is a new style of class added to friday and saturday’s opening Basics @ 10:00am is now a donation class. As we head into the colder months, the hope is to keep the park folk steeped in their saturday practice. If we can fit the bodies in that want to be there, oh what a happy practice it will be! yoga mats like to cuddle too 🙂

4:00p – 4:45p Walking Meditation…..Donation
5:00p – 5:45p Gentle……………..Donation
6:00p – 7:00p Basics

8:15a – 9:00a Gentle
9:15a – 10:30a Mindful Flow
6:00p – 7:15p Mindful Flow

8:15a – 8:45a The Mindful Express*
9:15a – 10:30a Mindful Flow
6:00p – 7:15p Mindful Flow

[8:00a – 9:00a Kiwanis Park (Shaler) Gentle Yoga…………FREE! Thru 10/3 and
possibly beyond weather permitting]
10:00a – 11:00a Basics……………..Donation
11:30a – 12:15p Gentle
12:30p – 1:30p Mindful Flow (time is not a typo–60 minutes is correct!)

* THIS IS A NEW CLASS CONCEPT! Entitled “The Mindful Express” for those just wanting to start into their frday with a very predictable practice of slow flowing Sun A and Sun B’s with a few long holds on some indivual asanas but it is primarily a moving meditation through the sun salutations followed by a seated meditation. It is for the mind that is hard to manage and after a long week, needs the emptying process of a mostly predictable sequence followed by the release of inner buildup. With an early start, it is meant to give you a dose of energy adjustments before you begin your official work/production day.

Enjoy your day 🙂

Schedule Reminders for Monday….

4:30pm – 5:00pm (Walking) Meditation

5:15pm – 6:00pm Fibromyalgia/Gentle

6:15pm – 7:30pm Mindful Flow (all levels)

Please keep in mind that sometimes we run 5 minutes or so over so just be patient and rest on the porch, enjoy the breeze, the view and a few minutes of stillness. We seldom are forced to take it during our day.

The first two classes are donation-based meaning it is pay what you can, if you can. All are welcome. This is one of the best introductions to meditation and all can do it.

Enjoy your day and try to remember to take some other moments during the day to find quiet and contemplation. Stretch your body and breath in and out fully, over and over again. Then take your finger off the pause button…and resume your day.

Community Updates & New Kiwanis Park Dates

First, a super high-five to the folks who ventured out to the studio yesterday! I loved that I got to spend more time personally getting to know you and that you could see what the experience was to practice within the walls of the studio space. It is important to find a studio that suits your needs and goals. There are many different types and if your practice is to grow, then it is important to scout out your ‘sanctuary’. Thank you for accepting the invitation!

Some of you who follow the studio on facebook know that another community outreach project is directed toward the women and children of HEARTH. The new offices and apartments have moved into the former Zoar Home after complete renovation to the existing structure and grounds. What stands now is a magnificent campus of apartments, offices and landscape to be turned into gardens, play areas for the children and other areas of function use. The apartments themselves, 20 in all with two being retrofitted and allocated to handi-capable clients. The apartments are all unique, meaning the floor plans are different for each and every unit. The ceilings are sweeping and the lighting is grand. It is hard not to be filled with joy waking up and returning, day-after-day to such a space. Most of these families are coming from poverty and despair and these new beginnings could not be better. The two-year restoration and rejuvination of these families self-esteem, living skills and educational enrichment are fundamental to their success. HEARTH has an 85% success rate with getting these families to sustain themselves (as document in their tracking reports for 5 years after their release from the program). Their methodology works. Supporting their efforts as a community is so important. Their children will be entering the Shaler Area School District and will be walking side-by-side with our children. I could not be happier that they are getting the same chances my children are and that collectively, their energies and experiences will offer a whole new opportunity for understanding.

Another community project is on the heels of being announced. Yesterday I met with the Director and things are being finalized. This is another opportunity to bring yoga to a sector of the community that might not ordinarily have exposure/opportunity. I am very excited because it is in collaboration with a new space that is also about the confluence of knowledge and expression; nurturing the mind, body and soul. What could be better!!! [dip it in chocolate maybe…lol 🙂 ]

Okay, onto the dates for Kiwanis Park now…it was a major bummer to get rained-out like that but it was the plan that day for the universe. It brought us to other opportunities. So just as was stated in the past, the weather will predict the practice. Make sure that you hit the “follow” button on this site so that your email will be captured and an automatic email will come to your box with a link every time a new post has been added to this site. It’s less remembering for you. Otherwise if you like to remain under the radar, continue to direct yourself to the facebook page and here accordingly. The choice is yours 🙂

Drum roll on the dates…

OCTOBER: (if weather holds up)

As always, please email all questions, comments (good & bad), etc. to Monday’s 4:30pm (walking) Meditation & 5:15pm Fibromyalgia/Gentle (45 min) are always donation-based. So if you are doing your best Curious George impression…come get UNcurious!

As always, I must thank you again for continuing to follow and attend and take in with deep consideration anything that appears on this site. Your ACTIVE support has been very affirmational and motivational. Keep on breathing and doing from the heart!

Have a beautiful Sunday!

A Mixed Bag

How do these saturdays keep getting better?! Even with rain and a soaked court, we managed to have fun and get a practice in. You all are such troopers for braving the weather and forfeiting your sleep…even baby claire! It is really very special to see the people who return and those who are new, bringing friends, family and others they are connected to…wanting to share the experience of yoga.

So the good news is that Tim Rogers, the Township Director, has given his awesome approval of continuation through August into September and beyond for the program (those dates will be posted shortly). As long as we can work around the weather and I am able to get there–provided there is no township/special event–we will have the ability to practice. This is such good news especially since there are now “regulars” who are working toward a goal. As your breathing and strength increases, your practice will evolve. Any time you have questions or concerns or desires for deepening your practice, ALWAYS feel free to communicate with me. I am always reachable via email at or via this blogspot or you message me on the facebook page.

One way to really bypass having to check in here all the time is to become a “follower”. just click on the “follow” and follow directions and you should receive an email each time a post is added. it saves the step of having to check-in all the time…unless you want to!

I want to also say a very special personal thank you to Hungtington Bank for caring so much about the small business owner. Staying inspired is a little easier when you know that it’s more than just you hoping that you will succeed!

Wishing you all a super weekend hoping you take the time to stop and enjoy where you can. and remember…there is no yin without the yang. balance! 🙂
